Moryt has worked for more than 20 years in the media industry as a journalist and newspaper editor.

As a journalist and former Silicon Valley Business Journal Editor, Moryt rebuilt and ran one of the must-read business publications in the American City Business Journal 40-paper chain. She wrote editorials and op-eds, as well as interviewed Silicon Valley visionaries and leaders.

Prior to the Silicon Valley Business Journal, she reported and then served as editor of several community newspapers that became part of San Jose Mercury News/Bay Area News Group in Northern California.

As a contributor to the Progressive Media Project, her commentaries were picked up by dozens of newspapers and media outlets including the Miami Herald, National Geographic, Los Angeles Times and The Charlotte Observer.

She now serves as the Editorial Advisor for San Jose Spotlight, the city’s first nonprofit, community-supported digital new organization, where she writes a monthly editorial about government policy in San Jose and Silicon Valley.

During her career, she garnered numerous awards for her body of work as a journalist and editor including commentary, breaking news, writing, analysis, and general excellence.

After her son became ill, Moryt’s focus shifted to mental health advocacy. She has spoken at hospitals, conferences and events including an interview with Brooke Shields discussing the actress’s experience with postpartum depression.

Dr. Kenneth P. Rosenberg, writer, director, and producer of the critically acclaimed documentary “Bedlam”, including a post-event panel discussion on the film.

Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Stephen Manley, a pioneer in decriminalizing mental illness in the courts. The Judge is recognized as one of the first in the nation to establish a Behavioral Health Court, now considered the “Gold-Standard.”

Tom Insel, former director of the National Institute for Mental Health, discussing his vision for the future of mental health in America and author of Healing: Our Path from Mental Illness to Mental Health.

Moryt serves on the board of NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) Santa Clara County. She writes and blogs regularly for the nonprofit on a range of mental health topics. Additionally, she moderates NAMI SCC panel events.
